  1. Don't forget about the coupon for Retro Reporter readers to get 10% off at eShakti until July 31!

Like I said in my previous post, a few weekends ago (gosh, I'm behind) Miss Bee and I took a road trip to Calgary to see Krista Dee, go shopping, watch Magic Mike and generally be fabulous. We also happened to go during Stampede time, so it meant almost no one was in the vintage stores that we frequented. Me likey.

After the HOUR it took for Bailey and I to get off on freeway ramp onto another (seriously Edmonton, why?) we were finally on our way to Calgary. After a very chill evening we were off bright an early to an estate sale. Krista already documented her haul here, but she still left some bounty for the rest of us.

    Like these vintage knitting patterns:

    And these cute utensils:

And la pièce de résistance, this red arborite table.

All for a total of $25. Yup.

Carrying on, we went to Cat's Eye Vintage. My total: $50. I am in looooove with that sailor dress!

    Adorable sailor dress
    "Christmas" green skirt

    Pink Cashmere sweater

THEN (yes, there's still more) we went to A Vintage Affair. And I spent lots more money. Total: $130

Adorable patio set. Almost left without knowing there was a skirt!

    Ann Taylor silk shirt dress
    my "dustbowl" dress
    Picnic skirt!
    Aaaand:

I just need a matching one. Krista has one. Almost stole it.

Phew, that's all folks! Now I'm a little bit poorer and my closet seems to be shrinking.

  2. Hey friends! I have a big post in the works from my trip to Calgary for the monthly meeting of the Alberta Vintage Girls  Contingent (AKA road trip with Miss Bee to see the wonderful Krista Dee) but I just wanted to let you know about a special deal eShakti is offering Retro Reporter readers.

Until July 31, take 10% off any eShakti order with the code LA24SEN. You can also use the coupon on eShakti items that are up to 40% off, which means you could get some lovely retro styles custom made for up to 50% off.

Note:  The code can be used any number of times until the validity period. This discount code is not applicable on the Overstock category.

If you use the coupon, please let me know once your purchase arrives. I'd love to see a round up of styles!

  3. Dr. Martens opens Edmonton location

    Thursday, July 12, 2012

On Thursday, I was lucky enough to be invited to the Grand Opening of Dr. Martens in West Edmonton Mall.

The WEM location is their second Canadian location (the other in Toronto and one is on its way for Montreal) and is owned Louise Dirks, who also operates Edmonton's Gravitypope and Campers locations.

Louise and Doug, international sales rep for DM.

The store held a media preview ahead of the grand opening where local bloggers got a tour of the store and a low-down on the products.

I didn't know a lot about the brand, so I was happy to learn quite a bit: like how the company likes to open new stores in April because April 1, 1960 was the day the iconic 1460 boots rolled off the assembly line. This one (obviously) did not.

The entire store has a great vintage/retro vibe (very British-industrial chic), from the decor to the shoes.

Some of my favourite shoes include:

These almost came home with me. Alas, they did not have my size!
I got to meet a lot of other Edmonton bloggers, such as Zoe Kreider, Janis of Dress Me Dearly and Marie of Marie a la Mode.

The staff and management at Dr. Martens were very friendly and helpful, and after a tour and sneak peak at upcoming collections, we were treated to drinks, snacks (helloooo raspberry sorbet) and swag bags, including a free pair of any Docs we want. Thank you!!
Coupons, laces, notebook, pencil, flashlight, sticker, tattoos & buttons c/o Doc Martens WEM
CD, guitar picks (woo!) and coupons c/o Blackbyrd Myoozik

I can't wait to test out and review my Mary Janes for you all. Stay tuned!
